There was something different about him this time though. He was wearing a sharp looking black three-quarter length wool coat. \u201cA friend was nice enough to buy this for me,\u201d he told me. Handing me the receipt that was still in the pocket he looked me in the eye. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to believe how much they paid for it\u2026I\u2019d be happy with something from the thrift shop.\u201d I explained to Anthony that giving is often times just as much about the giver as it is the recipient. He nodded and said how thankful he was for the generous gift.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 473px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"JRS-2013-0214-001.jpg by reed_sandridge, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/57043777@N03\/8474699546\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"JRS-2013-0214-001.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8391\/8474699546_7c4685b0ae.jpg\" width=\"463\" height=\"265\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anthony introduced me to the &#8220;other Reid&#8221; &#8211; I don&#8217;t meet a lot of people with my name, not even spelled differently. Leave it to Anthony to scout out another Reed!<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">While we were talking, Anthony said he wanted to introduce me to somebody. You got to understand that talking with Anthony at <i>his<\/i> corner is not usually a simple bi-directional conversation \u2013 nope, not with Anthony. You see that\u2019s <!--more-->because he knows almost everyone that walks by and always has a cheerful word or two to say to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReed, I want you to meet Reid,\u201d he told me. I shook hands with my \u201ctocayo\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s a Spanish word for someone with your same name. I don\u2019t think we have this word in English, namesake isn\u2019t exactly right. I know they also have a word for this in Russian, Norwegian, Portuguese and several other languages\u2026but I don\u2019t think we have one. Anyway, I couldn\u2019t resist snapping a photo as I don\u2019t often meet other Reeds (or even Reids). It\u2019s actually our middle name \u2013 another oddity, right? And he\u2019s friends with Anthony!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 325px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a title=\"JRS-2013-0214-001-2.jpg by reed_sandridge, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/57043777@N03\/8473644477\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" alt=\"JRS-2013-0214-001-2.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8225\/8473644477_579e6b0662.jpg\" width=\"315\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">If you can&#8217;t be inspired to write surrounded by a million books and coffee&#8230;then you are probably screwed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After ribbing Anthony a little for not mentioning he had another friend named Reid \u2013 I headed up to do some writing at Books A Million. The idea of being surrounded by millions of books was so seductively inspiring that I couldn\u2019t pass it up! Great place to get some writing done &#8211; except for the slight distraction of the woman who got\u00a0<em>50 Shades Darker<\/em> from the bookshelf (without paying for it) and sat in the coffee shop lounge chair &#8211; shifting her body back and forth\u00a0inhaling\u00a0loudly while\u00a0murmuring\u00a0softly to herself. She was getting so worked up that I moved to the other side of coffee shop when she went outside to smoke a cigarette.<\/p>\n<p>And on that note&#8230;check in next week for some updates on my writing, Anthony\u2019s search for housing, etc. I have a little surprise for him too. I am going to see if he would like to go to a job fair that is coming to DC!
